Our Monday Market is not just about people coming into to do a shop, it’s also about taking time to sit, have a cuppa, some breakfast, and a natter with friends old and new. There’s always a lot of smiles and laughter!
It was cake all round at the Market yesterday as Monica has been back in her kitchen baking her much loved ginger cake. Monica has kindly shared her recipe with us which has been passed down through the family. Monica told us we could share the recipe with you. Why not have a go and let us know how you get on.

Ginger Cake
2 Cups Self Raising Flour
1 Cup Sugar
1 teaspoon bi carb
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon salt
4oz margarine or butter
1 tablespoon of golden syrup
1 cup milk
2 eggs
Gas Mark 3-4 for 1 hours
21-23cm cake tin greased
Melt the margarine, syrup and add the milk
Add the dry ingredients and beat in the egg
Put into the greased cake tin and when ready score around the edge of the tin makes easier to take out when cool.
