Brilliant Beetroot

West End Centre

Yesterday was meals on wheels day, we delivered 27 two course meals out into our community, roast chicken dinner and allotment rhubarb crumble!

We had harvested a crop of beetroot from the allotment and delivered it out with the lunches along with instructions on how to cook and a few simple recipes. Many people did say they had only ever had pickled beetroot so would be nice to try it fresh.

The beetroot is a very versatile vegetable and can be used in a wide range of dishes and cooked in many ways, it also has a variety of health benefits.

Last summer at the community allotment we cooked some beetroot along with other vegetables for people to try giving them an opportunity to try something they may not have had before. The beetroot was very popular. One of the ladies made Paratha on the BBQ stuffed with carrot and beetroot was delicious and a lovely colour too.

The instructions on how to cook the beetroot can be found on the BBC food site this is the link https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/how_to_cook_beetroot_24214
