Allotment Group goes back outside!

West End Centre

Our Thursday allotment group has been based at the centre over the winter period. Although we haven't been at the allotment we have been doing gardening related projects from pressing flowers, seed bombs, cuttings and splitting plants, allotment bingo, researching how they farmed in the past, a zoom allotment session, planning for the new season and learning how to build a dead hedge! The time has now come to return to up to the allotment with lots of preparation and planting to do.

This month we are experimenting with recycled pop bottle cloches on a few of the plants to see what a difference they actually make. Each cloche will act as a mini greenhouses. We are also trying some recycled yoghurt pots as propagator's, they have clear sealable top's that will hold in the moisture for the seeds to germinate. We thought this would help us with plants that need a bit more heat to grow like our hops and okra.

Our onion sets are doing well and will be ready for planting out soon, just in time for our groups returning to the allotment!!

Fancy some exercise, fresh air, a good laugh and making some new friends? come and join us everyone welcome.
