A day out at a local hidden gem

West End Centre

Our allotment group decided they'd not been out on a trip for a while so chose to go to Lister Park.

In and around Bradford there are so many lovely places to choose from for a trip out Although a lot of the group had actually been to Lister Park before most had not seen the botanical or sensory garden. The botanical gardens have been at Lister Park since 1903 with the aim of showing every family of plants from Britain and other countries. We had a good go at identifying as many plants as we could with help from Dan our Horticulture expert!!

We had a scavenger hunt with a difference, each group had to draw a map and identify where certain items were within the botanical garden bonus points given for spotting a squirrel! A walk along the promenade passed the band stand and down to the café for a well deserved cuppa. Scruff our therapy dog joined us around the park and did his best to keep us all moving!

We rounded off the trip with a look around Cartwright Hall’s exhibitions. The weather was good for us, the day was full of laughter and some new friendships made. We are now planning our next trip out!
