Feed your family for under a fiver #3 Berry nice pudding

Fran

This week we took advantage of natures bounty to source some free food.....blackberries, yum. Most of the group had never been blackberry picking before and we felt like kids as we set off armed with our tuppawares. After lots of giggles and a few pricked fingers we had a reasonable haul and came back to start baking a crumble. This was a really cheap pudding as it used ingredients that we already had in our cupboard. I didn't remember to take a photo, and no one reminded me- i was far too eager to fill my face! This is an easy recipe- a fun one to make with the kids.

Blackberry crumble

Ingredients Serves: 6

  • 300g mixed berries - raspberries, strawberries and blackberries, sliced if large

  • 200g sugar

  • 180g butter/marge, cut into pieces

  • 250g plain flour

  • A couple of handfuls of porridge oats

Method Prep:10min › Cook:30min › Ready in:40min

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 C / Gas 6. Arrange the berries in a shallow baking dish.

  2. Mix the caster sugar, butter and flour with a fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle evenly over the berries.

  3. Bake in the preheated oven until crumble is golden and berries are bubbly, about 30 minutes. Serve warm or cool with ice cream /cream or custard.
